We have an exciting update to share with you about our goal of constructing a community-accessible dog park!
Since Animal Welfare Friends receives no outside funding, we’ve been busy finding sources for establishing a dog park that will be open to the public on AWF property. The shelter has received two generous commitments for the park from private donors. In addition, we have received a grant from Jones County Community Foundation, and will continue to apply for additional grants.
With this funding, we can move forward with Phase One of our plan, which will be focused on first building a smaller part of the dog park. This section will eventually be for small dogs only when the main park is funded & developed, but we’re excited to get things up & rolling to start!
The next phase to this project would be fencing in the larger section of the dog park. Future phases beyond that would include sourcing water for a water fountain and dog watering station and running electricity for lights.
Our ultimate goal for the dog park is for it to be filled with all of the necessary items for it to be a fun, safe dog park for our community, while staying smart about what we include and spend on.
We are still in need of funds to complete this project. Contributions toward this project will support growth in our community, as the public park can be enjoyed by so many — local residents and off-the-road visitors. It is also a great healthy activity with nothing else quite like it in our area.
If you’d like to support the building of this public dog park, donations can be made on our website (http://animalwelfarefriends.org/donate), or mailed/dropped off at the shelter. Donations can also be made in memory of or in honor of someone. Please put in the donation notes that it is to be put toward the dog park, and if the donation is a memorial/honoring. Thank you!!
We will continue working hard on this project, and will keep you updated on the progress!
